OWEN PROVED WRONG BY WEST HAM

Ex-Premier League striker Michael Owen has proved wrong by West Ham United following his prediction for the home game against Liverpool in the league. The ex-Stoke City, Real Madrid and Newcastle United player backed Liverpool to secure a 2-1 win at West Ham United in his column for BetVictor. At the end of the Premier League encounter between the two teams at the London Stadium on Sunday evening, West Ham United recorded a big win to prove Michael Owen wrong via a 3-2 victory.

The Hammers drew the first blood when Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker punched a corner kick into the net. West Ham United were on their way to securing a slender advantage at the break before Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold delivered a well taken freekick to ensured that the two teams scored a goal each at the end of the first 45 minutes.

West Ham United then took the game away from Liverpool in the space of seven second half minutes. The East London club scored twice through Pablo Fornals and French international Kurt Zouma in seven minutes to take the game from Liverpool. Belgian substitute DivockOrigipulled one back for the Reds in the closing minutes to setup a nervy finish for the Hammers fans. In the end, West Ham United held on to record their first win against Liverpool in five years.

West Ham United had not beaten Liverpool since 2016 and Michael Owen didn’t give them a chance to end their poor run against the Reds. Until their latest meeting, Liverpool had won their last ten encounters.

Apart from ending their poor run against Liverpool with the 3-2 win, West Ham United also moved above the six-time European champions on the league standings. They have one more point than Liverpool whom they leapfrogged from fourth to third place.
